BioSand Filter appears plugged or flow through has become very slow.
The valves may be in the wrong position.
Ø
Check the normal operating positions
The BioSand Filter may need backwashing or a mini-backwash.
Ø
Check the system backwash log sheets. If 5,000 gallons (22,680 litres) or more of water has been used since the last backwash, then the BioSand Filter should be backwashed. If only a small amount of water has been used, then do a mini-backwash.
The BioCarbon Filter appears plugged or flow through has become very slow.
The valves may be in the wrong position.
Ø
Check the normal operating positions
The BioCarbon Filter may need backwashing
Ø
Check the system backwash log sheets and the water meter. If it has been approximately 6 months since the last backwash, you should backwash the BioCarbon Filter.
The system fails to deliver water.
The system may need a backwash or mini-backwash.
Ø
Check your backwash log sheets.
The valves may be in the wrong positions.
Ø
Check the normal operating positions.
Ø
Check if any of the under drain valves on the BioSand and BioCarbon Tanks are closed.
The system may not be receiving water from the raw water source.
The Ozone Generator's NO FLOW light is on.
The Injector is plugged
Ø
See problem “The Injector is plugged.”
The Teflon tubing from the Injector to the Balanced Barometer or from the Balanced Barometer to the Ozone Generator may have a cut or split.
Ø
Replace cut or split tubing with new Teflon tubing.
NOTE: ONLY Teflon tubing can be used here, not PVC, polyethylene etc.
If the Ozone Generator's power light is on, the air pressure switch on the Ozone Generator may be damaged or not properly set.
Ø
Please call your Mainstream representative for servicing.
IMPORTANT: Do not open units; only qualified personnel are trained to repair equipment. Units contain high voltage please avoid risk of electrical shock. DO NOT CHANGE FUSES: there is a reason for failed fuses.
The Injector is plugged.
Ozone Treatment Tank Injector
Ø
If this Injector is not working, the Ozone Generator's NO FLOW indicator will be lit.
Storage Tank Injector
Ø
To determine if this Injector is working, place your finger over the open port on the tee connection. If it is working you will feel the suction on your finger.
If either Injector is not working the problem is a plugged inlet port at the tee connection.
[You can either stop the pump from running and close both valves (you will have water run out when you open the Injector) OR perform the servicing while the pump is running (the vacuum caused by the water flowing through the Injector will not allow water to leak).

| CAUTION: There is a spring behind the ball that may cause pieces to pop out of care is not taken. |
|
The water level is too high in the Balanced Barometer.
Valve above the Ozone Treatment Tank recirculation pump that is required to be partially open is open too much. [In this case the flowmeter on the Ozone Generator would be reading higher than 4 L/minutes.]
Ø
Slow the flow of water into the Ozone Treatment Tank by slightly closing this valve. [This valve should be adjusted in very small increments while checking the Ozone Generator flowmeter. Adjustments should continue until the flowmeter is reading between 2.5 to 4 L/minute.]
There may be a blockage in the vent line that comes from the Ozone Destructor to the exterior vent.
Ø
Check for obstructions in the clear braided hose or in the exterior vent.
The Air Dryer moisture indicator tube crystals are not blue.
There may be a blockage in the vent line that comes from the Ozone Destructor to the exterior vent.
Ø
Check for obstructions in the clear braided hose or in the exterior vent.
If the crystals are WHITE in colour:
This is an indicator that the dew point has gone above 40◦C. [This may happen if there was a power failure or the Air Dryer was turned off within the past 5 hours. The crystals should turn blue once again when the Air Dryer has been running for approximately 5 hours.
If the Air Dryer has been running again for more than 5 hours and the crystals still remain white in color, please contact your Mainstream Representative for assistance. (The crystals turning permanently white can happen in systems that have been operating for 2 to 5 years indicated that the desiccant in the Air Dryer has become depleted. Contact your Mainstream Representative for replacement.)
If the crystals have turned BLACK in colour:
This indicates that the crystals have been permanently damaged from exposure to ozone.
Ø
Check and restore room ventilation.
Ø
Contact your Mainstream Representative for replacement of your indicator.
If the crystals have turned YELLOW in colour:
This means that the crystals have been permanently damaged by exposure to oil vapours. The desiccant inside the Air Dryer has also been damaged.
Ø
Contact your Mainstream Representative for replacement of your indicator and the desiccant.
If the crystals have turned PINK/RED in colour:
This indicates that the crystals have been permanently damaged from exposure to acid vapours.
Ø
The source of the acid vapours must be identified and removed. Possible sources are a nearby solid fuel burner, an overcharged battery, pollutants in the air etc.
Ø
Contact your Mainstream Representative for replacement of your indicator.
IMPORTANT: Do not open units; only qualified personnel are trained to repair equipment. Units contain high voltage please avoid risk of electrical shock. DO NOT CHANGE FUSES: there is a reason for failed fuses.
The pressure system cuts out.
The water level in the treated water storage tank is low.
Ø
Perform “mini-backwash” as explained in Operating Manual.
There is water in the balanced barometer.
Ø
Adjust Valve #14 and check the flow meter on the generator keeping the ball between 2 and 4.
The water in the BioCarbon Filter is lower than the Biosand Filter.
Ø
Backwash the BioSand Filter.
After backwashing the BioSand Filter the water level in the BioCarbon Filter is still low.
Ø
Check for an air lock in the manifold. Open Valve #5 to release the air - you may get a dribble of water.
